Evidently TalkOrigins doesn't give God much credit for planning.
Certainly God knew how long it would be before the Ark was ready to be boarded and would have planned accordingly for their arrival.
And in all likelihood would have had them brought aboard immediately rather than have them roaming around for decades and possibly getting  into trouble .

Additionally, He more than likely put most of the animals into a state of hibernation in order to avoid the problems a mere eight people would encounter when trying to care for about 16,ooo animals.

He probably kept the domesticated animals awake to give the crew some busy work to do and get their minds off of what was going on outside the Ark. ​
